Munnings' Retreat

See what our guests think

An experienced UK holiday cottage renter, I chose to stay at The Flower Loft with some trepidation, based solely on its associations with the early 19th c. artists' colony in Lamorna and with my relative and idol, Sir Alfred Munnings, who chose this very spot as his studio some 102 years ago. We could not have been better pleased than Alfred himself! The cottage is an absolute delight, being tucked down its own leafy lane, far from the madding crowd, yet set in a sunny opening filled with birdsong and surrounded by the most immaculate and lovely cottage garden. The house is imminently cozy and comfortable, with every need foreseen. Sweetly decorated and thoughtfully accessorized, we lacked for nothing within the cottage itself, and the surrounding area is indescribably lovely! I am in inveterate walker and an artist, and was well supplied with some of the prettiest walking routes and most paintable scenes I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. The South Coastal Path is just a short walk away, but public footpaths branch out from the little road just behind the cottage and from just across the main road into Lamorna, so that circular walks are easily made. The scenery along the coast is utterly breathtaking, and the inland walks are difficult to make without tripping over standing stones, quoits or iron age forts ~ to my utter delight! Superbly situated for day-trips, we visited numerous gardens and sweet coastal villages. Within walking distance, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Cove Cafe while we sat outside, watching the tide creep out in the sunshine. Because the kitchen was so well appointed (and because my travelling companions are such terrific chefs!), we took most of our evening meals at the cottage, well-supplied with fresh local produce; however, we walked the few short steps up to The Wink for their Friday special of fish & chips, where we enjoyed one of the most unforgettable meals of our 2-week stay in Cornwall, chatting with friendly local residents, partaking of fresh cod cooked to perfection and gaining back any weight we might have lost on our walks in the shameless consumption of vast quantities of maple honey torte! When we made our weary to the cottage each evening, it was warm and welcoming in its little valley, and we'd end the long days with a stroll beside the peaceful stream at the foot of the heavenly-scented garden. We will definitely return to this perfect little Cornish gem, set in the Western crown of the county.

We had a great week with lovely weather so will be thinking back on our holiday here for a long time to come. The house and gardens are wonderful and we all felt very at home here. We have enjoyed Sennen Cove and Porthcurno beaches as well as the Minnack theatre and St Michael's Mount. The Penlee Gallery in Penzance is well worth a visit for art lovers but the 'piece de resistance' for us had to be a Bay Discovery Catamaran trip with Marine Discovery.co.uk out of Penzance. We saw Atlantic grey seals and basking sharks!!

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage and gardens. Very well equipped and relaxing, what more could you ask for? Visited several locations, including St Ives, Land's End and too many moore to mention. Cornwall has so much to offer. A lovely time had by all. Can't wait to come back!

Certainly worth the long drive! We had an amazing holiday. The cottage was stunning and had everything we needed. My 2 year old loved the garden, stream and hidey-holes under the beds! Perfect location, great weather. Had a lovely meal at The Cove Restaurant. I would recomend you take a visit to Kynance Cove - stunning location!

Spent the week here - stunning house (home) and an equally beautiful garden. Had a fabulous week.

We have had a magical time. A beautifully appointed cottage - wonderfully presented for visitors. We enjoyed dinner at the cove, the coastal walks, the little shops of Penzance. Most of all we enjoyed the woodland setting of Lamorna Cove. Thanks you.

Had a fantastic weekend in this lovely cottage. What a perfect place to celebrate the matriach of the family's 90th birthday. Beautiful weather to add to the occassion.

We had a wonderful time, beautiful cottage.

The house is such a beauty and it had everything we needed and more. Its location is very peaceful with a big garden and a nice short walk to Lamorna Cove.

The Flower Loft's garden was magical, not to mention the beautiful county of Cornwall with all it’s delightful offerings. The house itself was lovely and very well kitted out for cooking, ironing and watching television!

This was a great cottage for large family or group. Lots to do nearby and the babbling brook and attached woodland made it feel like a real retreat from the mad world. Excellent facilities and well maintained.

The property was beautiful a real homely atmosphere. Lovely touches such as nice pictures and silk flowers which you do not normally find in holiday cottages.

Stunning cottage, tranquil and beautiful location. A perfect cottage in every aspect and only 10 minutes walk to the Lamorna Cove! Breathtaking.
